It’s actually just a fish. This is a badass video of a flying fish staying aloft for 45 seconds. I don’t recall ever taking a good look at a flying fish; it’s amazing how much it resembles a toy glider.
The video is also cool because it takes place near Kagoshima, Japan, a place I’ve visited several times, and not so far from Kumamoto, where I lived for a couple years. Nothing reminds me of Japan more than funky fish.
Fugu, for example.

That’s amazing: Ironically, the only true “flying” fish are freshwater hatchetfish from South America, they, unlike flying fish, flap their fins whenever they leap out of the water (and is why every fishbook that mentions them warns everyone to keep a secure lid on the tank)

I’ll be taking a trip to the Galapagos this summer. Do they live around there?
