This is pretty cool. BBC News has a nice piece on the discovery of the 150 million year old tracks of a group of 11 sauropods and one ornithopod, made in Yemen recently. Apparently this is one of the first dinosaur finds in the Arabian Peninsula, and thus a bonanza for those who would try to unravel how that part of the world must have looked on the other side of the KT boundary.
The sauropods, of course, were the large, long-necked, four-legged dinosaurs we all remember from our childhoods. The trackway described in the article contains the prints of individuals of all ages, from relatively tiny youths to mountainous adults. The tracks make me picture the animals tramping along through a Jurassic forest, the earth shivering beneath them, giant insects buzzing about them, our familiar sun blazing over an utterly alien landscape. If only we could see it!
